USS Nantucket (LCS 27) Sailors Strengthen Community Bonds During Namesake Visit
The visit provided the Sailors a unique opportunity to connect with their warship's namesake and underscore the U.S. Navy’s enduring commitment to community and heritage. The delegation brought the spirit of the fleet directly to the Nantucket citizens, carrying forward a proud naval tradition spanning four generations of warships bearing the island's name.

Throughout the namesake visit, the Sailors demonstrated the Navy's commitment to service through several key community relations engagements. The crew partnered with local residents for a beach cleanup at Sconset Beach, visited with patients and medical staff at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, and met with local first responders at both the Nantucket Police and Fire Rescue stations. Additionally, the delegation built vital civic relationships during meetings with Town Manager Libby Gibson, Harbormaster Sheila Lucey, and ship sponsors Polly and Richard Spencer, while exploring the island's rich seafaring history at the Whaling Museum and the iconic Sankaty Head Lighthouse featured on the warship's crest.
As the crew of USS Nantucket continues its active service, the memories and connections forged on the island will serve as a constant reminder of the community standing firmly behind them.
