Epstein Funded Genetic Research Linked to Regenerative Medicine
Years after his 2008 conviction on prostitution-related charges, Epstein sponsored experimental trials carried out by a physician at one of the United States’ foremost hospitals and investigated the creation of stem cells associated with immune function and healing.
The doctor, Joseph Thakuria, who was then a senior physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, also collaborated with a prominent genomic research program at Harvard Medical School.
Thakuria told CNN that Epstein took part in the Harvard Personal Genome Project, a "publicly accessible international database of genetic data contributed by volunteers to help researchers study genes and human traits."
Thakuria had not previously been publicly connected to Epstein and is facing no allegations of wrongdoing. He was not directly employed by Harvard University or the Wyss Institute, which manages the Personal Genome Project. Massachusetts General Hospital has no record of approving him to conduct the studies mentioned in the emails.
An MGH spokesperson stated that Thakuria departed from the hospital in 2022.
